ZIVALA LTD
Community Guidelines
Last Updated: 21st July 2026
|
These Community Guidelines are binding on all Users of the Zivala Platform. They form part of the Zivala Terms of Service. By using the Platform you agree to follow these rules in full. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban. Zivala is a trusted platform for organising health information, tracking symptoms and outcomes, publishing structured health journeys, learning from lived experience, and participating in a supportive health community. That trust is only possible when every member of this community behaves honestly, respectfully, and responsibly. These Guidelines exist to protect Users and to maintain the integrity of the lived-experience community on which this platform is built. |
These Community Guidelines form part of, and must be read together with, the Zivala Terms of Service and the documents referred to in them, including our Privacy Policy, Health Data Policy and Medical Disclaimer. Together these make up the terms on which you may use the Platform. If you do not agree with these Guidelines, you must not use the Platform. Capitalised terms used but not defined in these Guidelines have the meanings given to them in the Terms of Service or are the names of Platform features.
1 The Golden Rules
Read these first. Everything else in these Guidelines flows from them.
|
BE HONEST |
Only share experiences you have genuinely had. Do not fabricate, invent, exaggerate, or misrepresent any part of your health journey. |
|
BE ACCURATE |
Share what you know to be true. Do not present personal opinion, assumption, or secondhand accounts as established fact. |
|
BE AUTHENTIC |
Your story is your own. It should reflect your genuine experience — not what you think others want to hear, not content created to manipulate, and not experiences you did not have. |
|
BE RESPECTFUL |
Treat every person on this platform with dignity. Health is personal and often deeply difficult. Respond with the care and compassion you would want extended to you. |
|
BE RESPONSIBLE |
You are legally responsible for everything you post. Think before you submit. You cannot unsay something that has harmed another person. |
|
BE SAFE |
Never share content that could endanger yourself or others. If you see content that concerns you, report it. |
2 Trust, Authenticity, and Platform Integrity
|
Zivala's value depends entirely on the authenticity of the lived experiences shared here. Fake journeys, fabricated outcomes, and synthetic testimonials do not just violate these Guidelines — they undermine the trust of every genuine person who has shared their story. Protecting authenticity is protecting every member of this community. |
Every Story and contribution on Zivala should reflect genuine, first-hand lived experience. The following principles apply to all content on the Platform:
2.1 What Authentic Content Looks Like
- A genuine account of your own health experience — conditions, symptoms, treatments, outcomes, and reflections you have personally had
- Honest reporting of what happened to you — including difficult, negative, or inconclusive experiences
- Acknowledgement of uncertainty where you are not sure of something
- Clear identification of what is your personal experience versus general information you are sharing
2.2 What Undermines Platform Integrity — Strictly Prohibited
- Fabricating, inventing, or substantially misrepresenting any health experience, diagnosis, treatment, or outcome
- Creating fake journeys, synthetic health narratives, or invented patient stories
- Submitting content describing experiences you did not personally have
- Using AI tools to generate health experiences you did not have, or to invent diagnoses, treatments, or outcomes
- Creating or contributing to coordinated campaigns to post fake or manipulated content
- Purchasing engagement — including fake followers, fake reactions, fake story views, or fake community interactions
- Submitting content at the direction of a commercial entity, healthcare provider, pharmaceutical company, or any organisation in exchange for payment, benefit, or incentive
- Creating multiple accounts to submit duplicate or coordinated content
- Submitting synthetic testimonials — content written in the first person but describing the experiences of another person or fictional person
- Impersonating another User, a healthcare professional, or a Zivala staff member
Violations of this section are among the most serious on the Platform. They may result in permanent account termination and referral to relevant authorities.
3 What You Can Share
Zivala is a space for genuine, first-hand health experiences. You are welcome to share:
- Your personal health journey, including conditions, symptoms, treatments, and outcomes you have personally experienced
- Honest, balanced accounts of your experience with a healthcare provider, facility, or service — framed as your personal experience only
- Questions, reflections, and insights about your own health journey in community spaces
- Supportive, empathetic responses to other Users sharing their experiences
- General health information clearly presented as informational, not as personal advice to any individual
- Questions about navigating the healthcare system based on your own experience
- Journey updates — ongoing reflections, changes in your health status, and new experiences in your health journey
- Encouragement and solidarity to other members of the community
Everything you share should be based on your genuine, direct, personal experience. Zivala is not a forum for general health debate, medical opinion, secondhand accounts, or third-party narratives about other people's health.
4 What Is Strictly Prohibited
The following conduct is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate enforcement action up to and including permanent account termination and referral to relevant authorities.
4.1 False, Misleading, or Fabricated Content
- Submitting a story, post, or contribution that describes an experience you did not have

- Creating multiple accounts to submit duplicate, coordinated, or manipulative content
- Submitting content in exchange for payment, incentives, or any benefit from any third party
4.2 Harmful Health Content

- Making false statements of fact about any named individual, healthcare provider, hospital, clinic, or organisation
- Publishing allegations of clinical negligence, malpractice, or serious professional misconduct without reasonable factual basis
- Presenting personal opinion about a person's competence or character as established fact
- Sharing secondhand or unverified accounts of another person's conduct or experience
4.4 Harassment, Abuse, and Harmful Conduct
- Harassing, threatening, intimidating, or abusing any other User

- Posting content designed to humiliate, shame, or cause distress to another person, including through health information
- Inciting others to harass, report, or take action against any individual
- Discriminatory content based on race, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, chronic illness, mental health condition, or any other protected characteristic
- Using health information shared by another User to target, shame, or harm them
4.5 Privacy Violations and Doxxing
- Sharing any personal data, medical information, or private details about another person without their explicit consent
- Publishing personal information that could be used to identify or locate another person (doxxing)
- Uploading documents, images, or records that identify a third party without their consent
- Disclosing confidential information obtained in a professional, clinical, or personal setting
- Attempting to identify or de-anonymise any other User who has chosen to share content pseudonymously
4.6 Platform Manipulation and Misuse
- Attempting to manipulate the Platform's recommendation, ranking, trust, or moderation systems
- Using bots, scripts, or automated tools to submit, interact with, or amplify content
- Using the Platform to advertise, promote, or solicit commercial services without Zivala's prior written consent
- Attempting to access, scrape, or extract Platform data without authorisation
- Creating accounts for the purpose of promoting your own services or products
- Coordinating with others to artificially inflate engagement on any content
- Distributing or introducing any virus, malware or other harmful code through the Platform
- Attempting to circumvent, disable or interfere with any security feature of the Platform or any of its safety or AI guardrails
- Phishing – that is, mimicking communications from Zivala or any other person in order to collect identity information, login credentials or other information
- Taking any action that disrupts, or is intended to disrupt, the operation of the Platform or its systems, including any denial-of-service or similar attack
4.7 Illegal Content
- Content that infringes any third-party intellectual property rights
- Content that constitutes or facilitates fraud, extortion, or criminal activity
- Content that violates applicable data protection, privacy, or consumer protection law
- Content that is obscene, grossly offensive, or otherwise unlawful under UK law or applicable law in your jurisdiction
- Content that constitutes hate speech or incitement
5 Structured Health Journey Standards
Health Stories on Zivala are structured personal health journeys. They are the platform's primary content type and the reason other Users come here to learn from lived experience. The quality and authenticity of Stories determines the value this community provides to every person navigating a health condition.
5.1 What Makes a Good Health Journey
The most valuable health Stories share:
- Accurate symptom descriptions — what you experienced, when, and how it affected you
- Accurate treatment information — what treatment you received, where, and how it was administered
- Honest outcomes — what happened, including outcomes that were uncertain, negative, incomplete, or ongoing
- Honest reflections — how you felt, what you learned, and what you would do differently
- Accurate timelines — when things happened and how long they took
- Acknowledgement of what you do not know — gaps, uncertainties, and open questions
5.2 Language That Helps Others Without Misleading Them
Permitted — language that accurately reflects your personal experience:
- 'This treatment helped me.'
- 'My symptoms improved after I changed my medication — but this was specific to me and my doctor's recommendation.'
- 'I waited [X] weeks for this procedure and found the experience [description].'
- 'I'm still managing this condition and haven't found a treatment that fully works for me.'
Not permitted — language that overstates or universalises your experience:
- 'Everyone with this condition should try this treatment.'
- 'This treatment cures this condition.'
- 'This medication always works.'
- 'If you have these symptoms, you definitely have this condition.'
- 'Doctors are wrong about this — this is what actually works.'
5.3 What Undermines Structured Journeys
- Miracle cure claims or guaranteed outcome language
- Universal treatment recommendations applied to all people with a condition
- Unsupported claims about treatments, medications, or interventions
- Presenting uncertain or anecdotal information as established medical fact
- Omitting important context about your situation that would affect how others interpret your experience
- Sensationalising or dramatising your experience in ways that mislead others about what is typical
6 Experience vs Advice — Understanding the Distinction
|
The most important distinction on this platform is between sharing your experience and giving medical advice. You are here to share what happened to you. You are not here to advise others on what they should do. The line matters — for your safety, for other Users' safety, and for the integrity of this community. |
6.1 Permitted: Sharing Your Experience
The following are examples of permitted experience-sharing:
- 'This treatment helped me manage my symptoms — but my experience may not be the same as yours.'
- 'I was prescribed this medication and it made a significant difference to my condition.'
- 'My journey took [X] years to diagnosis. If you are experiencing similar symptoms, I would encourage you to speak to your GP.'
- 'This approach worked well for me. I'd recommend discussing it with your doctor to see if it could work for you.'
- 'I had a really difficult experience with this procedure. Here is what happened and what I wish I had known.'
6.2 Not Permitted: Giving Advice
The following are examples of content that crosses the line into advice and is prohibited:
- 'You should take this medication — it will help your condition.'
- 'Stop taking [medication] — it doesn't work and causes harm.'
- 'Everyone with [condition] should try this treatment. It cures the underlying cause.'
- 'Your doctor is wrong. The real treatment is [X]. Do this instead.'
- 'You don't need a doctor for this — here is what to do.'
- 'Take [specific dosage] — that is the correct dose for this condition.'
6.3 The Test
Ask yourself: am I describing what happened to me, or am I telling someone else what to do? If it is the latter — rephrase it as your experience, add a clear prompt to consult a healthcare professional, or don't post it. Zivala is not a medical advice platform. The value of your story is in its honesty — not in how strongly you advocate for a treatment.
7 Referencing People, Providers, and Organisations
You may share experiences that involve named healthcare providers, hospitals, clinics, healthcare organisations, support groups, charities, or other users. Doing so carries significant responsibility.
7.1 What You May Do
- Describe your personal, first-hand experience with a named provider, facility, or organisation
- Share honest, balanced accounts — including both positive and negative experiences — framed clearly as your personal experience
- Describe how a provider, facility, or organisation treated you — their communication, their approach, and the outcomes you experienced
- Share information about your care pathway that others may find useful for navigating similar situations
7.2 What You Must Not Do
- Share any information that could be used to identify, reference, locate, or target any individual, clinician, clinic, pharmacy, organisation or location name
- Make false statements of fact about any named person, provider, facility, or organisation
- Make allegations of clinical negligence, malpractice, or serious professional misconduct without a reasonable factual basis and without having taken appropriate legal advice
- Present personal opinion about a person's character, competence, or conduct as established fact
- Share secondhand accounts — reports of another person's experience with a provider that you did not personally witness
- Reference a person's private life, personal conduct, or matters unrelated to their professional role or your healthcare experience
- Submit content about a provider at the request or direction of any third party
7.3 Legal Responsibility
Defamatory statements — false statements of fact that harm a person's reputation — may expose you to personal legal liability independent of any action Zivala takes. Zivala will cooperate with legitimate legal requests to identify users who post unlawful content. If you are considering sharing an experience involving clinical negligence or serious professional misconduct, seek independent legal advice before posting.
If you believe content on the Platform is defamatory or otherwise unlawful, you can report it to us at support@zivala.health or through the in-Platform reporting tool, telling us where the content is, what is wrong with it and why. We operate a process to review reported content and, where appropriate, to contact the person who posted it and to remove or restrict the content promptly, consistent with applicable law.
7.4 Other Users
When referencing or responding to other Users, you must not share, repeat, or amplify any personal, medical, or identifying information they have shared without their explicit consent. The re-identification risk described in the Terms of Service applies — do not take information from another User's Story and use it in a way that could identify them.
8 AI-Assisted Content
|
AI RESPONSIBILITY NOTICE: Using AI tools to assist with writing your Story or community content does not reduce your personal accountability for its accuracy, authenticity, or lawfulness. You remain solely responsible for all content you submit, regardless of how it was created. |
8.1 Permitted Uses of AI Assistance
AI tools on Zivala — including story drafting and story generation features — may be used to:
- Help you articulate and structure your genuine health experience in clear, readable language
- Suggest ways to organise your health journey narrative based on information you have provided
- Improve the clarity, grammar, or structure of content that describes your real experience
- Generate a first draft based on notes or prompts you have provided about your own genuine experience
8.2 Prohibited Uses of AI Assistance
AI assistance must not be used to:
- Generate health experiences, diagnoses, treatments, or outcomes you did not personally have
- Invent, fabricate, or embellish any part of a health journey or clinical encounter
- Create synthetic first-person testimonials that describe fictional patients or fictional experiences
- Generate content that claims to be personal experience when it is AI-generated fiction
- Produce content that presents AI-generated health information as personal medical advice
- Automate the creation of multiple accounts or multiple content submissions
8.3 The Core Principle
AI assistance is a writing tool, not an experience generator. Every Story on Zivala should reflect real lived experience. AI may help you tell your story — it may not create a story you did not live. If AI has helped you write your Story, the experience in that Story must be yours.
8.4 Moderation of AI-Assisted Content
AI-assisted content is subject to exactly the same moderation standards as entirely human-written content. 'AI generated it' is not a defence to a content violation. Content that violates these Guidelines will be enforced against regardless of how it was created.
9 Community Spaces and Direct Messages
9.1 General Principles
Community groups, posts, comments, events, and direct messages are spaces for connection, support, and shared experience. Many of the people in these spaces are living with serious, chronic, or complex health conditions. Engage with the care, sensitivity, and respect that reflects this.
9.2 What You Must Not Do in Community Spaces or Direct Messages
- Pressure, coerce, or persistently encourage another User to change, abandon, or pursue any treatment, medication, or clinical intervention
- Use another User's health vulnerability to manipulate, exploit, or extract information, money, or personal data from them
- Offer to help another User source prescription medications, controlled substances, or unregulated health products
- Market, advertise, or promote any health product, health service, supplement, or treatment programme through community spaces or direct messages without Zivala's prior written consent
- Share unverified health information or health misinformation in community spaces in a manner that could cause another User to make a harmful health decision
- Use community spaces or direct messages to solicit personal, financial, or sensitive information from other Users
- Attempt to move conversations off-platform for commercial, inappropriate, or harmful purposes
- Share links to external websites without clearly stating their nature, purpose, and your relationship to them
- Respond to a User in apparent distress with unsolicited advice, particularly advice about treatment or medication
9.3 Supporting Vulnerable Users
Many Users share difficult, ongoing health experiences. If another User appears distressed, struggling, or in crisis:
- Respond with empathy and without judgment
- Do not provide unsolicited health advice or tell them what to do
- Signpost crisis resources if appropriate — see Section 10
- Use the in-Platform reporting tool to flag content that concerns you for immediate review
- Do not share, amplify, or engage with content in a way that could escalate distress
9.4 Direct Messages
Direct messages are private communications between Users. They are subject to all these Guidelines. The fact that a message is private does not make it exempt from moderation where abuse is reported. Direct messages do not constitute professional health advice from any User, regardless of their background or profession.
10 Crisis and Mental Health Content
|
CRISIS SUPPORT — If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal thoughts, or thoughts of self-harm, please contact: Samaritans (UK): 116 123 (free, 24/7) — samaritans.org Crisis Text Line (UK): Text SHOUT to 85258 (free, 24/7) Crisis Text Line (US): Text HOME to 741741 International: iasp.info/resources/Crisis_Centres Your GP or local mental health crisis team Zivala is not a crisis support service. If you are in immediate danger, call 999 (UK), 112 (EU/International), or 911 (US). |
10.1 Content Involving Mental Health
Mental health content must be shared with particular sensitivity. The following apply:
- Content that glorifies, romanticises, normalises, or provides detailed descriptions of self-harm, suicidal ideation, disordered eating, or other harmful health behaviours is prohibited
- Content that presents a mental health crisis as a positive or desirable state is prohibited
- Sharing personal experiences of mental health conditions, treatment, and recovery is permitted and welcome — framed consistently with the experience vs advice distinction in Section 6
- If you are sharing about a very difficult mental health experience, consider adding a note that your experience is personal and encouraging others to seek professional support
10.2 When You See Someone in Crisis
If you encounter content from another User that suggests they may be in crisis — including content that describes active self-harm, suicidal plans, or severe distress:
- Use the in-Platform reporting tool immediately — crisis content is prioritised for human review
- You may also email support@zivala.health for urgent matters
- Do not engage with or amplify the content
- Do not provide unsolicited advice
- If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services in their jurisdiction
10.3 Platform Response to Crisis Content
Zivala operates crisis content detection as part of its safety review processes, consistent with our obligations under the Online Safety Act 2023. Reported crisis content is prioritised for human review. Our moderation team is trained to apply safe messaging principles to crisis content. Crisis content response is designed to reduce risk, not to punish Users who are in distress.
11 Health and Safety Content Standards
Given that Zivala is a health platform, all health-related content must be handled with care. The following standards apply to all content on the Platform:
- Do not present your personal health experience as applicable to, or appropriate for, any other specific person
- Do not recommend that other Users pursue, avoid, or change any treatment, medication, or clinical intervention — see Section 6
- Do not discourage other Users from following the advice of their healthcare provider
- Do not share content that could cause another person to delay or avoid seeking urgent medical care
- If you share information about a treatment, medication, or procedure, make clear it reflects your personal experience only
- If you share information that could be clinically significant, encourage other Users to verify with their own healthcare professional
- Do not share specific medication dosages or clinical protocols as recommendations for other Users
12 Age and Minor Protection
The Platform is intended for Users aged 18 and over. The following apply:
- Do not create an account or post content on behalf of any person under 18 years of age
- Do not share any content that identifies, depicts, or relates to a minor without appropriate consent
- Do not post content of a nature that would be harmful or inappropriate for a minor audience
- Do not target minors with health content, invitations to join groups, or direct messages
Zivala reserves the right to remove any content that may involve or be directed at minors.
The Platform is not directed at children. Zivala carries out a children's access assessment and applies age-assurance and age-gating measures appropriate to the Platform, consistent with the Online Safety Act 2023 and Ofcom's guidance on highly effective age assurance. Where Zivala becomes aware that a User is under 18, Zivala may, acting reasonably, suspend or remove the account without prior notice and without liability to the User or any other person.
13 Online Safety Act 2023
Zivala operates user-to-user features, including community posts, groups, and direct messaging. In line with the Online Safety Act 2023, Zivala has obligations to assess and manage the risk of illegal content and, where a service is likely to be accessed by children, obligations to protect children from content that is harmful to them. The Act does not require us to remove lawful content that adults choose to share, but it does require us to apply our terms and safety measures consistently and transparently. Our approach includes:
- Content moderation combining automated detection, AI-assisted review, and human moderation
- Prioritised review of reported crisis content and illegal content
- Transparent reporting and appeals processes for moderation decisions
- Risk assessment of the potential harms arising from Platform content, including health misinformation, crisis content, and harassment
- Safe messaging approach to crisis and mental health content
- Cooperation with Ofcom and other regulatory bodies as required
- Maintaining and reviewing our illegal-content risk assessment and, where applicable, our children’s access assessment, in line with Ofcom’s codes of practice
Users are encouraged to use the in-Platform reporting tool to flag content that may violate these Guidelines, constitute illegal content, or pose a harm risk to themselves or other Users. Zivala reviews all reports and takes action in accordance with our content moderation processes.
The specific measures we take to protect users from illegal content (including terrorism content and child sexual exploitation and abuse content), the proactive technology we use, our complaints procedure, and your right to bring a claim if we remove your content or suspend your account in breach of these terms, are set out in the Online Safety section of the Terms of Service. These Guidelines should be read together with that section.
14 Trust and Content Integrity
Zivala's content review and moderation framework is designed to protect the safety and authenticity of the Platform. Consistent with the Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Medical Disclaimer:
- Automated safety review scans content for safety concerns, harmful health claims, and content violating these Guidelines
- AI-assisted content review identifies content that may require additional human review — including potential health misinformation and safety concerns
- Human moderation reviews flagged content, reported content, and content involving serious or borderline violations
- Content review does not clinically validate the health information in a Story — all Stories remain subject to the Medical Disclaimer
- Content trust indicators may be introduced in future to allow Story authors to provide context about the basis of their Story — any such system will be disclosed in these Guidelines and the Terms of Service before it becomes active
15 Moderation and Enforcement
Zivala operates a combination of automated and human moderation. We reserve the right to take any actions, acting reasonably and proportionately. Where we take action against your content or account, we will tell you what we have done and why and how to appeal, unless we are unable to do so for legal or safety reasons or are prevented from doing so by law. These Guidelines do not constitute legal advice. If you are concerned about the legal implications of content you have posted or intend to post, seek independent legal advice.
Zivala will cooperate with law enforcement and legal proceedings as required by law and as consistent with our Privacy Policy. Zivala may disclose User identity and content to relevant authorities or in response to a lawful order, without prior notice to the User where legally required.
